On my second visit to Salvador, I stayed at Pousada villa verde in Barra, after finding my first stay in Rio Vermelho boring. This was much better. I chose a room with a kitchenette for snacks, and the place was quiet enough to feel private and comfortable. The location is very convenient, in a safe, peaceful area with everything nearby within walking distance. It’s in Barra, close to Praia Farol, Salvador’s most famous beach, and Barra shopping center. The pousada is very clean and has strong, fast WIFI. There was no disturbance, and I barely noticed the other guests. The owner, Wolfgang, was helpful and generous. Whenever I called for something, he was happy to assist. The only downside was dogs barking at neighboring houses during the first part of the evening, though they quieted down after that. If you’re spending time in Barra, Salvador, I’d choose Pousada villa verde again without hesitation.

I stayed during Carnival. The location was good, breakfast had lots of choices and was delicious, and the staff were polite and attentive. Wellington and Luiz were especially pleasant. The owner, Breno, was helpful and quick to reply on WhatsApp. The sauna worked well, and the heated pool was genuinely warm. The pools were a different story. The indoor and outdoor ones needed cleaning: the edges were grimy, there was sand on the bottom, and leaves too. The glass around the covered pool was filthy, as if it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. We arrived Friday and left Monday, and the outdoor bathroom was still filthy. So please don’t tell me cleaning is daily. There used to be a sauna by the outdoor pool, but it had been deactivated. I was in chalet 1, where a bathroom leak left the whole floor wet. They tried to fix it, but there wasn’t even a small rubber washer at the inn, and apparently they couldn’t buy one to deal with the problem. The beds were awful and the bath towels poor, though that might be specific to my chalet since other accommodation was unavailable at the time. We also found a scorpion at the inn on Friday, so be careful with closed shoes. I’d recommend it to someone looking for a simpler place.
