I stayed there in 2022, so I can’t say what it’s like now, but my experience then was awful. The bathroom had no shower enclosure, so water pooled on the floor and I had to step in it to use the toilet or sink. There were also cleanliness problems and a bad smell. The room was supposed to be a suite, but its main wall was just a partition; the living and dining area was right behind it, and I could hear everything through it. I don’t know whether things have changed since then.

The reception staff member was extremely rude and had no courtesy or professionalism, and seemed unprepared to deal with guests. The price didn’t match what was provided: the site showed attractive photos and affordable rates, but on arrival the place was under renovation and looked like an abandoned construction site. There were no handrails or safety barriers on the stairs, and the gate was left open all night. They didn’t honor what was advertised, quoted a much higher price, and offered no choice of rooms. The one we got felt like a cell, with a dirty bathroom, uncomfortable beds, and linens of questionable cleanliness. The air conditioner was installed about 30 cm above the double bed and blew directly at people’s heads. I know a hostel isn’t expected to have a five-star hotel setup, but I did expect the service to live up to its online advertising.

Online, the photos look lovely and the rates are listed by room type, such as single, double, triple, or couple. But when you arrive, they want to charge per person at a price far above what the site advertised. The place itself looks like an unfinished construction site. I don’t know if Jacobina has a consumer protection office, but if it does, the relevant authorities should inspect this place. Its way of operating seems completely arbitrary and shows little regard for consumer law.

The room smelled strange, and the staff weren’t in uniform or otherwise identifiable as employees. The bed was uncomfortable, so I switched to a more comfortable one and paid the difference, but the stay was still unpleasant. There was what looked like animal poop on my sister-in-law’s bed. The bathroom lid was broken, the bin was like a kitchen sink bin, there was no soap, and the towel was very poor quality.
