The apartment I picked was a decent size, even though it cost the same as the smaller ones, and the place itself looks good, feels new, and is in a convenient spot. But it felt like being in prison. If you're European and accustomed to privacy laws, the cameras can make you feel watched from four different angles all the time. Even after the face recognition locks let me through the main doors using my registered face, reception staff kept staring at me as I walked in alone. It made me really uncomfortable.

We had a lovely one-bedroom apartment for NYE and NYD in Joao Pessoa. The infinity pool on the 10th floor had a great atmosphere, and the place is really close to downtown. Breakfast was amazing and cost under £4 per person. I'd absolutely recommend staying here and will definitely come back.

The room was tiny, and the badly designed shower flooded the bathroom every time. It stayed damp and stuffy, but we couldn't leave the window open, and the electricity went off whenever we left, so it felt like a damp little cave. After four nights, I had a rash. Check-in was a joke, too. They asked for a selfie, and I couldn't get into my room until 3:45. The place tries to be high-tech, but it's just a cheap budget hotel. I hated it; everything about staying there was miserable, like being in prison.
