Hotel San Martin

The bed felt much too small, and breakfast was simple, though it covered the basics. The staff were exceptionally attentive: when my husband left his wallet behind, they waited an hour so we could come back and get it. Service was impeccable. The hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and I can say that confidently because I was born in this city and came to visit my family here.

This hotel gives you good value if you want a cheaper room without a long list of extras that raise the price, especially when you might not use them. Our room was small but laid out well, with a comfortable bed, a work desk, and room for clothes and luggage. It also had air conditioning, a real plus in the summer heat inland in São Paulo state. During the day it seemed to work fine and cooled the room well. At night it cooled things at first, then after a few hours running, it stopped cooling properly, started dripping and making cracking noises. Since it was the middle of the night, we decided not to contact the hotel staff and lose more sleep. Apart from that issue, everything else went well, and the staff were polite and attentive.

The staff were very helpful, the location was good, and breakfast was good too. The room was small but practical and had air conditioning. One night is fine if you get lucky with the AC. Ours worked normally in the afternoon, then started cracking and dripping at night. I didn’t contact the staff because I had a race the next day and changing rooms would have been a big hassle. The bathroom has a window facing the corridor, which takes away some privacy, and the room itself isn’t well insulated.
