Alta Vista Amazon Lodge

The river trips were a highlight: each one was different, fascinating, and felt very safe. We saw loads of wildlife and plants, which was mesmerizing. Danilo was a fantastic host, and the home-cooked meals were delicious. We barely encountered any mosquitoes, far fewer than along the Solimoes or Amazon.

The local food was a real highlight. Danilo and his parents grow and cook most of the fruit and vegetables, and the meals were amazing. We also loved the trips by boat, with beautiful places and sights that are still memorable to us. There were six of us, including two kids, and we stayed five nights. The family made us feel welcome and comfortable from the airport pickup onward. Our driver was friendly and knew a lot about the area and the places we passed. Danilo was so helpful and informative, and his parents run the lodge with him. We loved seeing monkeys, sloths, and frogs around the place morning and evening. We’ll definitely return on our next visit. Thank you, Danilo and family!

I booked Alta Vista six months ahead and paid a deposit. Shortly before I was due to arrive, they asked me to wire the remaining amount or provide my card details. They preferred a wire transfer, which didn’t feel safe, so I’m glad I didn’t do that. I gave them my CVV, as requested, but apparently that wasn’t enough. The next day they canceled my reservation, saying the balance had been due a couple of weeks after booking. I believe that may have been the deadline, but I missed it, and they had never contacted me about it during those six months. The message was easy to miss and very brief. I asked them to return my deposit, but they refused. I only got it back after Booking.com stepped in. It felt incredibly unethical, close to fraud. They wanted the money wired and kept my deposit, with an excuse that favored them. I also felt they would make more money from two people than one. I’ve attached messages to support my account. I wouldn’t wire them money under any circumstances. Do yourself a favor and stay at Amazon Eco jungle instead. It was wonderful, with excellent food, an amazing monkey sanctuary, great guides, and an all-inclusive stay. I had a five-star time and saved a lot of money for similar value. It was also only one hour away instead of two.

The way the hotel handled our booking during the difficult situation in the region meant a lot to us. They contacted me in advance, explained the circumstances and that tours had been canceled, then let us cancel for free even though our booking terms were stricter. A warm thank-you for such a kind solution. We’re very grateful. You can’t take this sort of consideration for granted these days. We can only imagine how welcoming and friendly the staff must be.
