The best part of our stay was the jungle walks with our guide, Moses. He knows the region and its fragile ecosystem incredibly well, and the excursions were a real highlight. The lodge sits beautifully by the river, and the staff were generally helpful. But communication got pretty difficult if you don’t speak the local Portuguese dialect. Meals filled us up, though they were often a little overcooked. The place is rustic and has the basics we expected, hot water, electricity, and AC. Still, there are gaps in the floorboards and openings to the outside. On the first night I found a small scorpion in the shower and a large frog clinging to the shower door. We left the lights on the second night, and only saw a bigger millipede near the bed and what seemed to be the same scorpion that lives in the shower. Our room doors didn’t latch properly either. The only way to keep them shut was to leave the key in the lock and engage the deadbolt from inside or outside. I also wasn’t comfortable signing a three-part carbon Portuguese receipt I couldn’t read after every drink order, without being allowed to keep a copy. I hope the drink count on the bill really matches what we ordered. On our first day, during an included excursion with lunch on a barge, my wife and I ordered a 48oz bottle of Amsterdam beer. It arrived already open in a plastic insulated container with two small 6oz glasses. After one round each, we noticed it was nearly empty. I don’t mind sharing with staff, but the way it happened, especially right at the start of the trip, made me suspicious for the rest of our stay, including back at the lodge. Was it partly finished by another party, or had staff drunk half before bringing it to our table?

I left feeling like I’d wasted my money. The jungle setting doesn’t make up for how poor the quality is, and the prices are at a luxury level for something that feels more like budget lodging. It strikes me as a mass-tourism trap for visitors who don’t know how much better the same price can get elsewhere in the Amazon. The rooms are small, outdated, uncomfortable, and poorly maintained, with cheap furnishings and a general sense of neglect. Cleanliness and comfort were far below what I’d expect for such an absurd price. This place calls itself an “eco-lodge experience,” but the rooms are extremely basic and don’t justify the cost at all. No value for money here. Strongly not recommended.

The organized trips were really enjoyable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodation itself is basic, though, and I’m sorry to say we didn’t enjoy the food at all. I got food poisoning on our last day, which is especially difficult when there’s nowhere else to go for a meal. With a bit of TLC and better food, the place could be much better. Our travel agent rated it 2 star plus.

I’d suggest staying at least three days, since several tours are included. You quickly get to know the other lodge guests on the trips, share meals, and might even connect on social media afterward. The owner has also set up a monkey sanctuary, where you can see lots of monkeys and feed a couple of them for a fun photo or video. The lodge is tucked into a lagoon area with no busy boat traffic. You can swim there or in the natural Amazon water pools and waterfall. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the whole complex was kept clean, and I often saw maintenance staff working on things. The food and drinks were very good. You can order more than one side, which I didn’t realize until the last night, ha ha. Alcohol costs extra, but water is always available. At breakfast you can get eggs or omelettes made to order, and the tapioca crepe is worth trying, especially if you’re gluten-free. I had a wonderful stay, and the price was excellent, much better than another place I considered.

We spent three days there and saw everything the Amazon has to offer. Every trip brought a surprise, and I can’t say enough about how amazing the staff were. They went above and beyond to make our holiday unforgettable. If you’re after a five-star hotel, give it a miss. But if you want a clean place to stay, good food, and the friendliest staff, this is the place.
