Hostel Brazil Back Packers Manaus

The hostel's location was excellent, right across from Amazonas Shopping, and the Venezuelan attendant Laura and her daughter Gabriela were kind. But the place itself was unpleasant in many ways: messy, smelly, and generally not nice to be in. Trust me, it wasn't worth it, unfortunately. The hostel doesn't seem ready to accommodate people and needs a complete overhaul, from the structure, especially the bathroom, to the mattresses and sheets. There aren't enough lockers for everyone either. The first ten people get one, and the rest don't. On top of that, the person in charge said EXPEDIA, where I booked, hadn't transferred the reservation payment, so I was told I'd have to pay again to stay. That was absurd. I was completely disappointed and frustrated. I'm sorry to say you've lost me as a guest and customer.

The rooms have air conditioning, the beds are new solid wood, and there’s a street-facing balcony. It’s across from Amazonas shopping, with shops all around. The place feels decent and has a good energy, and the prices are very accessible. They also offer monthly payment, which was 350 reais per month as of 18/05/2019. The Venezuelan staff work hard to help. The downstairs bathroom has no hot water, but I didn’t mind since Manaus is so hot. Great location, I recommend it.

The location near the shopping mall wasn’t enough to make this worthwhile. After I left, I realized some of my things had disappeared. The place was disorganized, dirty, hot, and full of mosquitoes. The shared bathrooms had no shower stalls, and the shower curtain was filthy. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. A hostel from hell. The facilities were in terrible shape, and reception seemed poorly managed. The volunteers were rude and overly familiar with guests, more focused on their WhatsApp conversations than helping us. Everything was filthy, including the bathrooms, where there was hair and dirt everywhere and feces floating in the toilet. The sheets hadn’t been changed between guests. It was the dirtiest, most disgusting place I’ve ever been.
