Maragogi itself is simple, and so is the pousada. The staff were polite, and when I arrived two hours before check-in, they kindly put me in room 1, just behind the lobby. The place was clean, though they hadn’t provided face towels or a bath kit, so I had to buy those at a nearby store. The air conditioner also seemed at serious risk of shorting out because it was leaking and soaking the room. Breakfast was basic, about what I’d expect for the nightly rate. Getting around town was difficult and expensive. Tourists seemed pushed toward a more expensive secondary app, and there wasn’t much to do unless you booked buggy tours through agencies or rented a car. The vans and mototaxis were confusing to use and didn’t seem to be offered much by local residents. I think some of the pousada’s shortcomings reflect the town itself, which has a lot less to offer than nearby places.

We never actually stayed here. We’d booked a package for 11/11/2022 to 15/11/2022 and arrived around midnight between Friday and Saturday. At reception, we were told we had to pay an extra 810 reais. We hadn’t been told about this charge, so we refused and asked to cancel. The receptionist said we couldn’t cancel and had to pay the amount in full. My friend had already paid half the amount he quoted on her card, so I asked him to refund it. After speaking with the owner the whole time, he said he’d process the refund, but told us to leave the reception area. We were put out into the rain with our bags, left on the street with nowhere to go in a place we didn’t know. By then it was around 1:30 a.m. We felt exposed, scared, unsafe, and desperate. The owner showed no humanity, empathy, or compassion. I’m still sad and upset about what happened, and I want to warn anyone considering this pousada, especially if you’re traveling with family. Read all the comments, not just the rating.

The staff were satisfactory, though only some of them. The rooms were okay, but I had to buy toilet paper at a market. The place felt in the middle of nowhere, far from everything. There are lots of rules for what the pousada offers. Breakfast was only satisfactory, and it starts very late, at 7:30 a.m., which made some tours impractical. There was no milk, only powdered milk, and the dining room was too small for everyone at once. The stairs up to the pousada were awful and dangerous.

The room was clean, smelled fresh, and everything was new. The towels and bedding were good, and the bed was comfortable. But breakfast was really bad. There was no cow’s milk or goat’s milk, and not much choice of juice. The French bread was as hard as a brick, and the granola was just as hard. The area around the pousada is also really poor, with no infrastructure.

The bed was excellent to sleep in, and the pousada is new and very clean, so the stay itself was great. I still recommend it, but breakfast felt far too basic for the room price. The dining area is large, but hot, and on my second morning I got impatient and bothered by the kitchen staff chatting and laughing loudly without much concern. It didn’t bother me the first day, and it seems like an easy thing to fix. I also didn’t like being required to wear an identification wristband around the clock. I refused and only showed it at reception.
