The gardens are lush and tropical, the rooms are modern and beautiful, and each day they bring sweet treats, fresh water, and turn down the bed at night. Breakfast was delightful, and dinner was a gourmet treat. You’d hardly expect such luxury in this location. Walking through the front door, I felt I’d found something special. I only had two small complaints. Construction just behind our room was very annoying and started at 7AM. And I wish hotels would provide hot water at the bathroom sink for shaving.

The outdoor area was dirty, and they were doing maintenance in the garden while guests were staying there. They lit a fire in the fire pit, and the smoke was really heavy. Breakfast was repetitive and didn’t offer many choices. The car park has no wall around it, and the walk to the entrance gate is unlit.

The rooms are spacious, with comfortable beds, and the architecture is beautiful. All the trees and plants make the place feel so peaceful. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh food served warm. Mucugê is already paradise, and this place feels like paradise within it. This is the place to stay!

The staff were the best part, and the hotel itself is spectacular. Breakfast was great too. But the price doesn’t feel justified: R$1740 per night for a weekend is expensive, and R$3.500,00 for a weekend? If money isn’t an issue, it’s worth staying here. Still, there are great inns in town for a third or a quarter of that price.

The welcome is what stands out most at Refúgio na Serra. We felt cared for by the staff throughout, especially in the restaurant and with the pantry service. Inside, the boutique hotel has the kind of finish and consistency you’d expect from the best in the world. One thought for improvement: we felt a little closed in, when the setting could open up much more to views of Mucugê. There’s a huge hill that could be visible from almost all the bungalows. Also, the entrance gate could be better placed, since the street there is so narrow.
