Hotel Tsankara

I'm only responding to the September message now because I only recently saw it. I sincerely hope things have improved since our stay in August 2025, by now, January 2026. The renovations were especially hard on us. Work went from 9 a.m. until 4 a.m. the next day, so a restful night was impossible. That was particularly difficult because we were traveling with someone who was ill. From the moment we arrived, there were tense exchanges, shouting, and a heavy atmosphere. A warm welcome and a calm explanation of the problems, including the renovations, would have changed our experience. We would have understood. I've stayed in much worse places, but I still believe the main problem here wasn't just the condition of the premises. Reception and communication were a major part of it. The manager's response to reviews was also surprising. After we left a simple, factual review on Airbnb, the public reply was lengthy, disproportionate, and unnecessarily aggressive. It came across as an attempt to justify themselves at all costs instead of listening to constructive criticism. We were offered an extra night as compensation, but that couldn't make up for the experience. We won't be back. I didn't take any photos. There were numerous security cameras on site, and I didn't want to risk any misunderstanding. That doesn't change what the experience was like. I'm not a hotelier, but I grew up around the hospitality industry, and I believe professionalism, respect, and humility make a real difference. When you don't know your guests, you should be restrained and respectful. Leaving this review to inform future travelers.

I always feel at home here, and Thierry, the owner, is really lovely. I stay at this hotel regularly when I visit Oiapoque, and the welcome is fantastic every time. The place is very clean, with a warm reception. It's also quiet and still close to the town center, no more than a five-minute walk. I highly recommend it.

The atmosphere was friendly and warm, and we felt at ease right away. Thierry, the owner, and his son really care about their guests and pay close attention to their well-being. They adjusted breakfast to suit everyone's preferences, which we appreciated, and gave us excellent tips for restaurants and outings in Oiapoque.
