The room smelled stale and wasn't very nice. We booked two nights, but got dengue on our first night and had to leave early. The host agreed to refund the second night if we left, but after we checked out, he stopped responding and we never got the money back.

The staff were lovely, and I have no complaints about them. Still, I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you can get one of the proper rooms. Ours was underneath the house in a space that looked unfinished, away from the common areas and the nicer bathrooms, which made it harder to meet people. It's also about a 15-minute walk to the town center. That might be fine during the day, but the street is poorly lit the whole way, so the walk felt unpleasant at night.

This isn't a hostel anymore. No one lives there now.

The workers were really attentive, and the place itself is lovely. Buena vista is also well situated, near Tiradentes's Square.
