The main draw is the location: it’s about a five minute walk from Praça Tiradents, the center of Ouro Preto, and you can find restaurants at Praça Tiradents or at Tropea, just below the hotel. Tropea has excellent food, though it isn’t part of the hotel. We chose this place after looking through many hotels, including major chains like Hilton and IHG, which don't seem to have a presence here. Since we weren't planning to drive around because of the parking, being able to walk mattered a lot. The stay included breakfast. The selection was limited, but it was enough to get the morning started. It’s a large house style hotel, or casarao, with a colonial look and feel. The room was large, and there aren't many levels, but there’s no elevator. There was no AC, just fans. Since we weren't there in summer, I can't say what that would be like in the heat. Tripadvisor says the hotel has parking, but it doesn’t. There’s a small area in front, but it’s street parking. Ouro Preto is very hilly, so be ready to park on steep streets, especially if you drive a manual car and aren't comfortable with hills. You can tip one of the guys on the street, who isn't affiliated with the hotel, to find and reserve a spot for you. I took off a star because the woman at check-in didn't acknowledge my arrival. I expected a welcome or an offer to help with the bags, but there wasn't even a hello. That felt odd. The hotel, food, and service were adequate, while the location was excellent. Parking will be an issue.

The service was very good, and breakfast was amazing. Excellent hotel.

The location is excellent and central, and the rooms have an interesting antique style with big windows. But it wasn't especially clean, and the female manager was quite unfriendly. Carmo church is right next door, and its bells start early and ring for an absurdly long time. They were the most unmelodic bells I've ever heard. If you're hoping to relax and sleep in, forget it.

Good value for money, with a tasty breakfast and plenty of choices. The shower was excellent, and the rooms were comfortable and very clean. The building itself is impressive, and the bed linen and towels even had the hotel's own logo.

The themed hotel had a great location. The room was very clean and comfortable.
