Mirante Hotel

The service was the real highlight. They gave us recommendations, arranged a historic tour, and even let me use their commercial laundry to iron a pair of pants. On our second-last night, our dinner order took about two hours. The night manager set up a lovely table for us in the breakfast area at 11 p.m. so our group of 10, including four children, could eat. We were really touched by his kindness. The hotel is only a few minutes’ drive from the central district, restaurants, and historic churches, and the view from every room was incredible. Our room was nice, with a great bathroom, though the shower took a while to heat up. Breakfast was really nice, with a good range of food and drinks. Highly recommend Hotel Mirante if you’re in Ouro Preto.

The rooms are nice for the price, though not very big, and the staff are pleasant. There’s free parking, and you get a good discount if you pay cash. Breakfast is nice, while room service costs about average. There’s no air conditioning or fan, and the refrigerators are switched off and empty at check-in, though you can bring something to keep in them during your stay. The TV only has basic channels. It’s about a 20-minute walk to downtown.

The rooms are modern and clean, but really small. We ended up with a dreadful basement room overlooking the parking lot, with no air conditioning and very poor ventilation. If you stay here, make sure you get one of the rooms with a view. Breakfast was mediocre, and you can find much nicer Pousadas in Ouro Preto for the same price.

It’s at the top of a hill, and getting to the tourist areas is quite difficult without a car. Nice hotel, though.
