Pousada Makutta

The location and breakfast were the good parts. The room was tiny, with Blindex doors that made it very cold, and there was no view of the mountains or town. Worse, the bathroom drain kept backing up, leaving a terrible smell in the room, like an open sewer. The night of June 14, 2025 was very cold in lavras novas, around 7 degrees. I got to the hotel at 11 p.m. and found the shower lukewarm to cold, then the next morning, June 15, it was practically cold again. We were in chalet 4 for Valentine's Day weekend, and the decor still had photos of another couple. This came after an earlier mix-up: we'd paid to stay on the same date in September, but they thought it was June. We let that go and came anyway. My husband felt awful about the whole thing because the trip was a gift and he had hoped to make me happy, but the place didn't make that happen.

Breakfast was all made to order rather than set out as a buffet, and it was delicious, plentiful, and well prepared. There were cakes, different breads, toasted sandwiches, eggs, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee. The people running pousada Makutta were polite, helpful, and willing to meet our needs. It's a small, simple place, but really cozy, with a comfortable bed and bedding. The location is great too, about an 8-minute walk from where most of the restaurants are. We could clearly hear conversations from the next room, so the soundproofing could be better. There isn't air conditioning. Lavras can get quite cold this time of year, but the temperature rises during the day, and I imagine the heat could be bothersome at night in other seasons. A hair dryer in the bathroom would be useful for us women. Those things weren't major problems for us. I have plenty of praise for the place and would definitely stay at Pousada Makutta again when I'm in Lavras.

The staff were very attentive, and staying here was well worth it. Breakfast was really good, the shower had hot water, and the inn is close to the center and the restaurants.

The village is cozy, though there's no gas station, and the view as you enter and leave it is magnificent. The setting is pretty, safe, and well kept, with a country-house feel. The team was pleasant, and service was quick even after their working hours. Breakfast was decent, but it only starts at 8:30 and you have to ask for it, which makes an early start hard. You won't be leaving before at least 9:15. The room was small, though the bed was comfortable, and the wardrobe was barely big enough for one person, let alone two or three. Sound carries terribly. I could hear people talking next door and had to ask them to turn down the TV so I could sleep.
