Sr. Antônio really makes this place special. He loves the area and his work, and his hospitality and willingness to help are hard to find elsewhere. I arrived without any plans, and he quickly suggested outings that fit the time I had, from late afternoon at Riachinho to a full day at Rio Preto. The hostel is away from the village, so I’d recommend having a car or being comfortable walking and hitching rides, which people commonly do here. The room is huge, room service comes daily, the price is affordable, and there’s a good breakfast. The shower has a heater, if that’s your preference. Come to Capão, enjoy life, and arrive with an open heart. People are polite and welcome visitors, and treating them well gets you goodwill in return. For guides, look through the association and try to find someone native to Capão. I recommend Daniel (75 9176-5026), a good guy who knows and loves the area and took me on the Fumaça trail.

Sr. Antônio is a lovely person, and the place is wonderfully organized. It’s pleasant and peaceful, with lots of good energy. There’s also a river running right alongside it.

It’s about 2 km from the town center, with a lovely park all around it. Beautiful place and excellent value for money. I highly recommend it.
