A relaxed hostel with really friendly, helpful staff who speak great English. It's in a handy spot, just two minutes from the bus station and about 5-15 minutes from the historic town. It's not a huge place, but there's a small lounge and seating area, plus a decent-sized pool. Our double room was basic and a bit worn, with uncomfortable pillows, though the size was okay and the shower was very good. The air conditioning was available but didn't work well. There was also a bad smell. I think it may have come from the small stream behind the room, where the air conditioning unit sits above it. I only mentioned it at checkout when they asked, and they were very apologetic, explaining that the town was addressing its sewage problem. Breakfast was basic. A toaster and butter would be handy for Brits and Americans who like toast, and tea would be nice too.

It's in a great spot, about a three-minute walk from the bus station and ten minutes from the city center. The atmosphere was excellent, and the staff and owner were really nice and ready to help with whatever we needed. The facilities were good too, with a lovely pool, air conditioning all day, and a decent kitchen.

I had an incredible stay at Carpe Diem Hostel and met some amazing people who became friends, especially since I'm new to Brazil. They looked after me and took me on city tours that were phenomenal, informative, and a lot of fun. Leo deserves a special thanks for taking such good care of me and becoming a great friend. The room was really clean, the pool was incredible, and the other guests were very friendly. Whenever I return to Paraty, I'll stay at Carpe Diem Hostel without a second thought.

The pool and location were great, and the room itself was fairly clean with an okay mattress. There was no soap for washing hands, though. The kitchen was very dirty and disorganized, and some electrical outlets were broken and could be dangerous. It felt like nobody was seriously handling maintenance, either simple fixes or more involved issues. Still, it was poor value for money. I moved to another hostel after one night and wouldn't recommend staying there. Other hostels in Paraty offer better value for the same price or less.

For what you pay, this is great value. I thought breakfast had plenty of choice, so I don’t agree with the complaints about it. The staff do get pretty loud from 7:30, though.
