Ayane made our stay stand out with her considerate, warm service, and she prepared a tasty, generous breakfast. Our room looked out over the sea, and the pousada itself feels cozy and charming, right across from Jabaquara beach, about a 10-minute drive from central Paraty. There are a few things that need attention: the shower, some clogged pipes in our room, and a toilet flush with a pump problem. The beds and rooms could also be improved, and towels and sheets could be changed more often.

At Casa Sal – Paraty, the breakfast was a real highlight, with fresh, varied food made with care from quality ingredients. The attentive, courteous service made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. A wonderful stay.

The beach right outside is bordered by mangroves, so it’s not really suited for swimming. Still, the inn is well placed for getting around, including the historic center, boat departures for outings, and other beaches in the area. I recommend the smaller boats, since the schooners don’t make for a very good experience. The place itself was peaceful and cozy, with a terrific welcome and service. I felt at home, and the breakfast was great, prepared with a lot of care. I’ll definitely stay here again when I’m in Paraty.

We checked in on Friday, October 24, during the last week of October, and after dropping our bags went into town to find dinner. When we got back around 9:30 p.m., there was no water in the shower. The staff tried everything but couldn’t fix it, so my family and I spent the night without a shower. The next day, other employees tried to handle it themselves because the maintenance person was out of town, and the people responsible for the property weren’t there either. Once it was clear the problem wouldn’t be fixed, we were told they’d find us somewhere else, but the pousada was full and had no rooms left. After a long wait with no update, my wife found another pousada herself. Luckily, a family had left early and a room was available. That saved our trip, as the city was packed and many people were going door to door looking for somewhere to sleep. During the discussion, we heard an employee say the person who had tried to repair the shower made things worse, and now they’d have to break into the wall to fix it. They refunded our room charges in the end, but left us without support, even though we had an 8-year-old with us. Patrick and Camila treated us very well when we arrived. I usually like to come here and write positive things, but after all the trouble we went through, I can’t this time.
