Pousada Villa Real Paraty

The stay over New Year's was fine, and I had no issue with the hotel itself. The accommodation and facilities met my needs. The trouble started after checkout, when I realized I had left a jewelry case behind. I waited 16 days without an update or solution. The hotel said it did not handle returning forgotten belongings, though they might send it if a staff member was willing to take it to the post office. I only heard anything after I contacted them myself. In the end, I had to ask someone else to collect my things from the hotel. I wouldn't stay there again because they didn't seem prepared or responsible when an unexpected problem came up for a guest.

The room looked nothing like the photos when we came back to check in after spending the day out. That was only the start. There was no water for a shower, and the toilet wouldn't flush. I had to ask for a bucket to get rid of the waste. It was one of the most humiliating situations I've experienced. The receptionist opened the sink and flushed it to get water flowing to the shower. She said the water had run out, though Paraty does sometimes have water shortages, that wasn't what had happened on this occasion. Since it was impossible to stay there, we asked for a refund. The pousada said the platform had to handle it, while the platform said it was the pousada's responsibility. The refund took a long time. I wouldn't recommend this place under any circumstances, and I think it should be inspected by the health authorities.

We spent six days and five nights there and had a really good stay. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and friendly. The owner was helpful too, offering suggestions for outings and helping with whatever we needed day to day. We'd been a little wary because of older reviews, but the management made a real difference. Villa Real was comfortable, well located, and welcoming. We'd definitely consider staying there again when we visit Paraty.

My wife and I stayed on 27 and 28/07/2025. We only had a day there, but we really liked the place. The room was comfortable and everything was clean. There was a little noise, but the stay was great. A special thanks to Thaila and Sônia, who were very kind and quick to help us.
