Pousada Avenida em Penha

We had booked and paid in advance for two rooms for five people over Children's Day, with one adult and a child in one room and one adult and two children in the other. When we arrived in the morning, there was no room available. We left our things in a small room and went to the park, after being promised our room would be ready when we returned. After an eight-hour bus ride and a full day at the park in the rain, we came back to find they planned to put us in a small detached building behind the inn. It had just one bedroom and three beds, one of them a double, for five of us. I spoke to the owner again. He said his wife had mixed things up, but there was no other accommodation. I asked for a refund so I could find somewhere else. By then it was nighttime, and the kids were tired and wet. Only then did the owner’s wife come speak to me in person. She was very sarcastic and aggressive, said she wouldn’t refund us, and insisted this was the room she would sleep in without complaining. She even said I or one of the children could sleep on the floor, despite our reservation being for two rooms. I had to threaten to call the police and file a report. She also tried to add some nonexistent fee to deduct from the refund. After a lot of stress, mistreatment, and disappointment over a trip planned well in advance, her husband finally returned what we’d paid for something we never received, and put us out of the inn like dogs. They also keep a puppy tied up on a leash outside the house all day, which deserves to be reported. Luckily, the snack bar next door and the other inn that took us in left us with a good impression of Penha. If we judged the city by these owners, we’d never come back.

The room was dirty, and changing rooms didn’t solve anything. The air conditioner in our first room didn’t work, and the electric shower gave shocks and wasn’t working properly. There’s no organization at all, and when we arrived they didn’t even check us in. The rooms are above a kitchen. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The owners are really nice, and breakfast is good. The furniture is old, though, and the place itself is poor. It’s very close to the park, but I’d stay here only as a last resort. If you’ve read this far, I guess it helped, so leave a like!

We’ve been staying here since 29/12/17, and so far I can only thank the owner Eliane and her husband Joel. We plan to leave on the agreed date, 01/01/18. I really recommend it ✌️😉
