Hostel & Pousada Atlanta

The service was good, but honestly we barely enjoyed our stay. The room where my family and I spent two days felt like an oven even with the fan on, and the beds were awful, hard and old, like something from the Flintstones. There should be rules for the pool. The other guests who were there the same days as us completely took it over. For what I paid, I expected the basics: rules that applied to everyone, beds we could actually sleep on, air conditioning, and some organization. I can’t say all the rooms at the inn are terrible, but I’m sure they put us in the “time-out corner.” In a way, what happened was good, some bad things are for the best. I won’t pay to stay at an inn again without researching it thoroughly first.

Atlanta has covered parking, a room, a shared bathroom and kitchen, Wi-Fi, a TV room, and a clean pool. The pool attendant was still clearing out some bits that had fallen in. The location is excellent, a few meters from the beach, and the supermarket is 150 meters away. The owners and staff spend the day cleaning, though with lots of guests some areas may get dirty for a while. You can ask them to clean, and they’re attentive. I slept on a great mattress here, but when you leave home, you might not always get the mattress or setup you’d prefer. I really liked Atlanta despite a few small issues, and nothing takes away from the place. The owner is investing to make it even better. When booking, check the room prices carefully online. There are several options with very different prices, and the price you usually find is the lowest one, for the simplest rooms. At a hostel, keep in mind that some spaces are shared and consider the value for money. A hostel may have things like a shared kitchen that you wouldn’t get at a hotel. Consider the effort the owners and staff make to give you a good stay, and suggest improvements that are practical. If something is dirty or there’s another issue, point it out and make suggestions.

The staff were fine in person, but they should have explained the extra costs before booking. I found out when I got there that pillows and blankets were rented, and breakfast cost extra. There was no soap in the bathroom, so I had to buy some. The daily rate was like a hotel’s, but the place didn’t offer the basics I’d expect from an inn. I first booked a room, but when I saw how small it was and learned the bathroom was shared, I paid more for a suite upstairs. The ceiling fan there didn’t work. If your car is the first one into the parking corridor and you need to leave, you have to ask other guests to move their cars. To avoid the awkwardness, I left my car on the street at my own risk.

WARNING, don’t pay in advance or before seeing the rooms. I’m still owed money, and they even tell me it’s for the church. Hell is full of believers like that! Horrible hotel. The beds were moldy, there were two shared bathrooms, and there were no suites. They still owe me $435. I paid too much by Pix and they didn’t refund it. It’s been 30 days.
