Pousada das Araras

The facilities are limited, but they were good enough for a great winter stay in a wonderful location that few people seem to know. We were there for a corporate event, and the service and setup provided for it were top-notch. The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly, even by Brazil’s already high standards.

The grounds are probably the prettiest among the Pousada’s in the area, and the place has a lot of charm. My room was expensive, but the cottage, fireplace, and jacuzzi under a glass dome made it worth the price. Breakfast was great, though it became repetitive after a couple of days, and I expected more service given that I had the most expensive room. The internet was weak, which always annoys me. Also, if you tend to get up during the night, this room may be a concern: the bed sits close to the edge of the second floor, and a fall could take you down past a large rock in the middle of the room. The rock is visible in the pictures, but still bothersome. Better customer service would help.

It’s a pleasant, well-kept place surrounded by nature, with friendly staff who were always ready to help. Getting up the hill to reach it is a challenge and could be difficult in rainy weather. My room was small but clean and cozy, and the bed was good. The old CRT television had few channels and a terrible picture, while the minibar was rusty and dated. Disappointing for the rate.

I’ve stayed here about six times now, and it still feels lovely: quiet, charming, and beautiful, right by the village of Araras. The price seems reasonable for the service and quality. I’d recommend it.
