Aquarela Pousada Hostel

Great.

Aquarela is simple, but it has a lot of charm and feels cozy. We felt at home right from the start. The breakfast was delicious, with everything fresh and clearly prepared with care. The owners and staff were attentive and kept checking that we were comfortable. It was a special stay, and we’ll definitely come back. 💛

The location was the one good thing for us. The inn is very basic, and comfort is lacking in several ways, but the owner's rude behavior and apparent lack of preparation made the stay much worse. There were five of us, all women. At arrival, he wanted to charge R$50 per person, almost half a night's rate, to let us leave our bags in the room before check-in. We were already running late for a conference and planned to head straight out. When we questioned the charge, he snapped that he didn't use water and electricity for free. Close to midnight, we asked for the sheet missing from our room. He questioned whether we really had no sheet to sleep on, then practically came into the room while the five of us were in our sleep clothes, apparently to make sure we'd looked properly. At checkout, one guest refused to pay the 10% service charge because of the way we'd been treated. He threatened her, twisted the conversation as if she'd insulted him, and turned a camera toward her to “produce evidence.” It felt like an attempt to intimidate her. When her friend tried to defend her, he said loudly, “She must be from Goiás,” implying Goianos are rude. She is actually very reserved and shy, and had only spoken up after reaching her limit. He kept arguing with all of us as we left. I've never been treated so badly at a place I was staying. After reading similar accounts here, it seems he isn't prepared to deal with guests and doesn't respect women. Several of us left in tears, and some went looking for a police station to file a report. Awful and unbelievable. I would never stay here again.

We had a really nice stay. Taio was a great host, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The inn has plenty of charm, a solar-heated pool, and a full breakfast.
