The location is excellent, with the central landmarks close by. The hotel itself is small, from the very tiny reception, which shares space with a cute chocolate and coffee shop, to the fairly tight rooms. The mattresses are good, and the decor feels carefully done. There’s no dining room, so breakfast comes to your room, which makes an already snug space inconvenient for eating. The food is good quality, though portions of butter, pao de queijo and fruit are small. There’s a decent range of other items.

The room was cramped for breakfast, which arrived in tiny portions with hardly any variety. We only found out at check-in that breakfast was served in the room. We looked over everything and asked for a refund so we could move to another hotel, but they refused. It turned into a hassle and made our vacation really uncomfortable. I didn’t like anything about this hotel. It was the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at.

The location is the one thing I can praise. I booked two superior rooms with double beds almost three months ahead, but after waiting in a line for around 40 minutes to get into the rooms, I found I’d been given a more basic room than the one I paid for. Breakfast is brought to the room, an idea I’d actually found interesting, but there were no cutlery and barely any coffee in the flask. I didn’t ask for a refund because I wanted to avoid more headaches. I won’t come back or recommend this hotel.

The location used to be the main selling point, but it’s not enough to make this place worthwhile anymore. I’ve stayed here a few times, and the service, facilities and cleanliness have gone from a 10 to a 0 in a short time. My room wasn’t properly cleaned, the mattress smelled strongly, and the breakfast, which was always minimal, is now very badly prepared. It feels like the hotel’s days are numbered and it could soon turn into a boarding house. It’s gotten much worse.
