Pousada Ondas do Mar

The only small thing I missed was a wastebasket in the room. Otherwise, I liked the pousada a lot. It’s right in front of the sea, has a lovely pool, and the staff are kind and helpful. The room was a decent size, neither too big nor too small. Breakfast was good, and they also offer complimentary afternoon coffee. I’d definitely stay here for days again and recommend it.

The pousada was excellent, and the staff were polite. The cook was especially friendly, particularly the woman who serves guests and makes the tapiocas. My biggest thanks go to João, the caretaker. At six in the morning he was already cleaning the pool so we could use it, watering the plants, and setting out the beach chairs. He was so thoughtful, polite, and hardworking.

I wish I could give a higher rating because receptionist Gabriel welcomed us warmly and was very kind. But the bed, despite being nicely decorated, was extremely small. When the pousada heard we weren’t comfortable because of the lack of space, they wanted to charge extra for an additional bed. The shower was very basic, had no pressure booster, and barely any water came out. The location didn’t work for us. It’s far from the center, Ubers take a long time to accept a ride, and the waves were too strong to go into the sea. We moved to another accommodation because we wanted comfort and didn’t leave home to have a difficult stay. I contacted the pousada twice to try to agree on a refund for the unused nights, but they refused both times. That felt very unfair since I didn’t get to enjoy the accommodation. I don’t recommend it.

It’s a basic place, and the only thing worth having at breakfast was the tapioca. The bed was awful and small, the curtains were filthy and old, and I had to put a towel over the pillow to be able to sleep. The whole place smelled terribly old. They didn’t respect quiet hours, and the lights facing the ground-floor rooms were left on. Good thing we rented a car. Without one it would’ve been worse, since it’s far from the center and Uber access is poor.
