We just got back from a weekend at Itu Garden SPA & Resort Saudável. The staff were kind and ready to help, and the restaurant team was great. The outdoor areas were well kept, including the gardens, warm and cool pools, gym area and restaurant. The furniture is old but well maintained. I also loved the quiet, with no background music, just seriemas, maritacas, a cool breeze and sunshine. The room was another matter. We stayed in Flores #42, which looked nothing like the photo and was quite different from the other Flores room our friends had. The bed, sheets and pillow were good, but the door stuck, there was just one bedside table and one chair with worn, scraped upholstery, and the door opened onto the lawn with no screen or anything to keep mosquitoes out. The curtain couldn’t be moved, so we had to keep the shutter door closed all the time. The bathroom was awful: no shower screen door, so bathing flooded the floor; poorly fitted tiles and trim that didn’t match; patched sink counter; cheap plastic shampoo holder; and no window screen. The room felt plain and unfinished, with no care or decoration. Getting there was frustrating too. After check-in, Giovana directed us to a parking lot far from our room. There was another lot right in front, with cars in it, but when I asked to park there and unload, she said it was for staff only and wouldn’t let me drive over. My husband had a fractured vertebra and couldn’t carry anything, so she offered, not very warmly, to see if someone could help with our bags. I went back to the car, carried the bags, and made the long walk. Then I saw our friends arrive by car at that second lot. They said they’d been told to park there. I went back and got our car. One practical tip: the gym mats smell terrible, so they’re worth wiping with alcohol before use.
