Quinta do Sol Praia Hotel

My mother, who is 67 and has Type 1 diabetes, had a life-threatening hypoglycemia emergency in the lobby. Staff refused her a simple cup of coffee because it was two minutes before opening, even though other guests were already eating. The receptionist verbally abused her with xenophobic remarks and insults. They also wouldn't provide the official Complaint Book, which violates local laws. The hotel showed no humanity or basic training for medical emergencies. A travel warning for seniors and people with medical conditions: if your health and safety matter, stay elsewhere. Absolutely appalling behavior.

The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the pool area was perfect for relaxing with a drink, snack, or meal if you want to stay in. Guests ranged from couples to families, and breakfast had a great selection, including tapioca and eggs made to order. The staff were very friendly, especially around the bar and pool. The location makes it easy to get to the beaches, and the beach is clean and easy to swim in. We especially enjoyed the beach opposite the hotel and the cabana 600 meters away. Town is close enough for a ride, though traffic can be slow. We only took a tour to cross the ferry; the northern beaches are reachable by car, Uber, or taxi. We walked 600 meters to the nearest cabana and beach restaurant.

I couldn’t check in because they wouldn’t take dollars and their card machines weren’t working. I went to the hotel next door instead, and everything there was normal.

The fried fish was delicious, and the staff were warm and attentive. It’s also in a handy spot between lovely beaches and downtown attractions.
