I booked through Booking, but they cancelled, saying Booking had shown a different price from what they were charging. The guesthouse’s own site listed the rate at 250 reais per night, yet Fernanda, who was very unfriendly, quoted 1,600 reais for three nights by phone, nearly twice what I expected. At the listed rate, three nights would have been 750 reais. I tried calling again to get an explanation, but they simply didn’t answer. After that phone service, I feel I dodged a bullet. The 1,600 reais will be much better spent somewhere else.

I only stayed Saturday and decided not to return on Sunday. At reception, they offered me an air-conditioned room for an extra charge, but the AC didn’t work and they refused to refund the extra money. The bathroom was dirty, with a loose, cracked toilet seat, and the shower water wouldn’t heat properly. Turning off the room light also turned off the fan. The fridge was unsanitary, and there was a dog among the tables at breakfast. A very poor experience.
