Set on a peaceful hill, this beautiful grand home from the 1930s has calming gardens, a pool, a friendly dog, and tortoises. Bars and restaurants are within walking distance. The Wi-Fi is slow, which suited anyone hoping to disconnect. A recommended place to stay.

The hosts are warm and attentive, and the hotel sits in a lovely, artistic, bohemian part of Rio. With all the hills, it reminded my wife and me of Montmartre in Paris. I'd recommend it to visitors, though the beach is about a 30-minute drive away.

The green grounds and pool were gorgeous, and Snoopy the dog, Ivan the tortoise, and Antoine were all charming hosts. It felt like we were far from the busy city, even though the place is right in the heart of Santa Teresa, which I think is Rio's best area. Our room was small and cosy, beautifully decorated, and spotless. Breakfast each day was delicious and had plenty of choice. A perfect base for exploring Rio. Thanks for a wonderful stay, I highly recommend it.

Santa Teresa was such a lovely neighborhood to explore, with cute, walkable streets and lots of great restaurants and bars. We felt safe there and were glad we chose it as a base for Rio. The property itself was lush and charming in person, just like the Google Maps photos suggested, with beautiful architecture across the grounds. We didn't want somewhere sterile or empty. There are plenty of steps between street level and the bungalow room, which made for a workout but also gave it the feel of a private, luxurious hideaway. Breakfast was fresh and just right each morning. Snoopy, the chill and adorable dog who hangs out on the wall keeping watch, made it feel more like home. My husband and I came from Dallas, TX, and we loved the place. Thanks to Bindu and Antoine for being so welcoming and sharing local tips. Wish it were only a five-hour drive away! ;)
