Casa da Gente

The staff were lovely, especially Barbara, who gave us helpful tips on things to do and places to eat. Breakfast was tasty, with everything we needed: fruit, ham and cheese, jam, eggs, coffee, and tap water. The large courtyard is a nice place to eat or relax and enjoy the city view. The location is pretty good, right in the middle of Santa Teresa’s authentic neighborhood. During Carnaval it’s lively, with people and music, and it’s easy to get around, with bus stops nearby. Our room, unfortunately, was very dirty and humid, and the main light was full of water. Being underground, it had no fresh air or sunlight. There were lots of mosquitoes that season, and sleeping with the window open wasn’t possible. I think air conditioning is needed, or at least a mosquito net. The room pictures on Booking didn’t match the room we had.

The room was simple but adequate, and the staff were friendly and spoke English. The terrace has a wonderful view and is where you can have breakfast. The neighborhood felt completely safe during the day and somewhat less safe at night. There’s no dinner at the guesthouse, so we ate at a fabulous Indian restaurant nearby.

We spent five nights at Casa Da Gente and had a wonderful stay. The location, price, sleep quality, and breakfast made it the right choice for us. It’s in a peaceful area but still very central, and the terrace has a great view. Barbara was incredibly kind and helpful, with lots of advice to make our time in Rio go well. We’d definitely come back if we return to Rio.

The hosts were warm and relaxed, and the view is stunning. Rooms were clean, quiet, and had air conditioning. Free water, tea, and coffee were a nice touch. Thanks, Barbara, for inviting me to the carnival opening! The area felt safe, and there are lots of tourists around, so just take the stairs.
