El Misti Hostel Rio Copacabana

The staff were so warm and always happy to help, and the location was good, near the beach and nighttime activities. The kitchen is well equipped, and although the hostel is small, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Good value for travelers. Thanks for an incredible stay, I’d definitely come back.

The beaches are just a five-minute walk away. Prices are good and breakfast is included. Rooms and toilets were kept clean around the clock, and the kitchen is well equipped. The staff are always trying to give you their best advice.

The location is amazing, right across from a Metro station and a five-minute walk to the beach. Reception staff are great, very helpful, and all speak English exceptionally well. Know what you’re booking, though: this is pretty strictly a party hostel. It’s loud until 1 a.m. at least, and people stumble into your room at all hours. In some cases they sleep until the next night. The hostel wasn’t very clean. The cleaning staff seemed to work around the clock and block off the kitchen for long stretches, but there were still cockroaches in every room. Some of the cleaners were also very loud and rude. Edit: Ten months into this same trip, I can say hands down this is the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Book with caution.

I was traveling solo and wanted a place to meet people and join activities. Before arriving at El Misti hostel in Copacabana, I’d visited four other hostels in Rio. This one had a terrific atmosphere. Big thanks to João, who was a great help and brought such positive energy. He was the main reason my friends and I chose the same hostel again when we returned to Rio.
