The rooftop pool, bar, restaurant, and deck were a real highlight, especially at night when the city view felt glamorous. The hotel itself sparkles, and housekeeping kept our room neat with a clean bathroom and fresh towels every day. We liked the area around Hilton Barra, which feels upscale, with Village Mall nearby for designer shopping such as Louis vuitton, Dolce, and Tiffanys. Barra is lovely, and we felt safe there. The tradeoff is the distance. Getting to the places tourists want to see takes at least 35 minutes and can take an hour, with awful rush-hour traffic. Ubers weren’t too expensive, and we filled the ride with conversation or planning the rest of our day on our phones. For us, a safe, luxurious home base mattered most, so the travel time was worth it. Most of the staff treated us beautifully. Breakfast was a lovely buffet, with omelets made to order by a friendly, well-trained chef. The wait staff were outstanding and happy to bring coffee, tea, juice, or fresh fruit to the table. The front desk team were warm and always ready to help. The executive suite staff were also terrific, and the two-hour cocktail hour felt like a nice extra. The snack service outside breakfast and cocktail time, though, was disappointing. If it stays open until 10 p.m., there should be more than crackers, perhaps chips, cheese, and fruit. It wasn’t especially enticing for a 2 p.m. treat or a 9:30 p.m. snack, and downstairs breakfast was better anyway. One lunch waiter, who sometimes worked the bar, seemed bothered by our questions and requests. When I asked for the smoked mayonnaise listed on the menu with my burger, he told me to use the packets. I didn’t want a fuss, so I let it go. Aside from that, we had a wonderful stay at this classy hotel. I’ll return to Hilton Barra when I’m next in Rio.

Rodrigo, the supervisor, made sure we got the lagoon-view room we had booked. The hotel was full on our first night, so our room didn’t have the view, but he was kind and moved us the next day as soon as a room became available. They also offered complimentary breakfast for the inconvenience. My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro. The staff kept checking that we were enjoying ourselves and gave us recommendations for places to visit in Rio. Jairo was especially kind too, helping us and bringing water whenever we asked. The service made the stay memorable, and I’d happily come back and recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Rio de Janeiro.

I’ve just finished my stay at the Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro, and it was great from beginning to end. Everyone stayed friendly and professional, and the front desk even surprised me with a thoughtful gift. Kelly at the desk was especially wonderful, and I made a couple of friends during my visit. I booked through Expedia and had paid in full ahead of time, so everything went smoothly. My first night had already been off to a good start: the room was excellent, the bed comfortable, the bathroom spotless, and everything worked as it should. Breakfast had plenty of good choices, the staff were welcoming, and parking for my rental car was about $12 a night. Kudos to the staff and management.

I checked out at 4 p.m. on 08 Nov 2025. The room was a decent size, the bed and mattress were very good, and the blackout curtains worked well. Internet speed was excellent, and the burger and fresh orange juice I ordered through room service were both great. There were some real annoyances too. The front desk man who helped me couldn’t understand English or Spanish. The hotel said it couldn’t generate receipts for food I’d eaten and paid for there, which was very strange. I could hear neighbors talking and opening and closing doors while I was trying to sleep. At 11 a.m. there wasn’t any decent coffee in the whole hotel, and lounge access wasn’t worth paying extra for, since it had only a few bananas and apples. Beach access wasn’t easy either. Overall, Hyatt - Barra is much better.

A mall is right across the street, with another about 15 minutes away. The neighborhood feels nice, safe, and quiet. Hotel staff were friendly, professional, attentive to my requests, and mostly spoke English. I had a great stay.
