If you're mainly looking for somewhere cheap to sleep between days and nights out in Rio, this could work. It's basically a hostel with a private room, a fan, and no AC. The rooms are small, and in January the heat can build up. There's a TV, though I doubt you'll use it, and no fridge. The shared bathroom can be busy early in the morning. Breakfast is available for an extra charge, but there are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. One on the corner is easy to reach by going downstairs and turning right. It's a budget stay in the center, close to the Saara market, which I recommend visiting during the day. The fan and a window that doesn't offer much comfort were fine for me, but some travelers may feel differently. The wifi actually works quite well, despite the poor ratings I've seen. I also found the neighborhood fine by Rio Centro standards. Some reviews complain about it, but I found those comments laughable. There are homeless people around, but they haven't bothered me. I didn't see drug dealers or prostitutes. If you're uneasy, take an Uber or taxi, especially late at night. This isn't a luxury hotel. If you want to save some money and only need a room for sleeping, it does the job.

I stayed for seven or eight days, and the location was really good. The room was small, with a bed, fan, wardrobe, and a balcony over the street. For sleeping, it was totally fine for me, especially at that price. It was always clean, and the staff were nice. You should know you can smoke inside, so the smell gets everywhere. Streetcars woke me up in the morning, and there's also a dance school or something and a pub downstairs, so it may not suit you if you're sensitive to noise or go to bed around 10 p.m.

The room was tiny, and the poor sound insulation meant I could hear people walking around, so I didn't sleep very well. There were lots of mosquitoes, too. Still, the price was cheap, with a simple breakfast included, a free drinking fountain, and good wifi. The common bathrooms were cleaned often and stayed very clean. Most of the guests were nice, though there was one creepy guy who walked around without underwear. The staff were lovely, and the owner seemed to be trying to make the place as comfortable as possible. I gave it four stars for the nice staff.

Just a place to crash. The room and bed are small, but it was clean and central, and the staff were friendly. They also have a luggage room. For the price, what I got seemed fair.

Old but gold, and great for backpackers. During Carnival, it's one of the cheapest hotels around. If all you need is a room, a bed, and a shower, it's hard to find anything cheaper in the city center that season. The location is really good for blocos.
