The staff were very, very friendly, and the location near the centre is awesome. The Wi-Fi isn't great, but I don't go on vacation to spend all my time online. Breakfast is nothing special, though it's fine for the price, and the hotel could be a bit cheaper. For a family, it's okay. Rooms for one or two seem to cost more in comparison. I'd go again.

What left me with a bad impression of our stay at Hotel Castelo was the service. It ranged from bad to awful depending on the time and the person working, and got worse from day into night. The Argentino who welcomed us nearly made us give up on Rio and go somewhere else. Staff, especially him, were so rude and discourteous that I can't recommend the hotel. There was also a big price difference between booking weeks ahead and paying the higher rate on the day. Since we'd reserved in advance, I expected it to cost less. The hotel itself isn't bad and the location is good, near downtown, the arches of Lapa, and the Santa Teresa neighborhood, with easy access to other areas. Breakfast was reasonable. It's a simple hotel without much comfort, and our room had almost no ventilation, which bothered us.
