Itajubá Hotel

WiFi was stable only around the reception, which was disappointing. The location was good for the city centre and just around the corner from Cinelandia metro station. There were quite a few homeless people nearby, though they were completely harmless. The rooms and breakfast were really good, and the staff were very nice.

My friend broke his knee, and his leg was in a full cast. Because of the obvious limitations, he was going to stay with us at the hotel right beside this one, thank god. He needed help getting to his room here to collect some of his things, but the front desk made a huge drama out of letting anyone else in. That behavior was absolutely diabolical. The WiFi was trash too. This place really shouldn’t call itself a hotel. Don’t stay here.

The staff were all nice, and they kindly removed the cockroaches for us, but I wouldn’t stay here again. I found one crawling in the bathroom, sprayed in there, and shut the door. About an hour later, there were ten dead roaches on the floor, with more behind the door and toilet than appeared in the photos. They must have come up from nearby, which left me feeling like roaches could get into the rooms. I saw two outside the hotel too, and our taxi driver said the area was dangerous, so we stayed in at night. The room felt old and dirty, the bathroom looked unclean, and the old AC and noisy tap made it hard to sleep. Breakfast was poor, with overcooked scrambled eggs that had eggshells in them. WiFi was nearly unusable outside the lobby.

I stayed here September 5 to 10. Only one elevator worked. The TV didn’t work, the AC was broken, there were no working plugs, and the refrigerator didn’t work, it was just decoration. Nobody spoke a language other than Portuguese. The front desk, cleaning team, and cafeteria staff were very rude, and service was bad, with no understanding of how to treat guests from different places. In three days, I was asked about six times if I was checking out and whether I was a hotel guest. Outside, there was garbage around, homeless people sleeping by the front door, and urine and feces just a few feet from the main entrance.
