Le House Hostel

I made the mistake of choosing this place while walking by without checking the reviews. The old lady wouldn’t show me the room at first and never said the air conditioner was broken. There were mosquitoes everywhere, and I woke in the middle of the night hurting from all the bites. The kitchen was awful and they kept the utensils hidden. An older local man had to yell at them before there was anything to use in the kitchen. On checkout day, the old lady rushed me to leave. Worst place I can think of staying.

Getting to Le House Hostel from Copacabana beach was a big uphill climb, despite looking close on the map. The road up is single lane with fast traffic, and I was nearly run over several times. Inside, there were serious privacy and cleanliness problems. The rooms were dirty, with rat poo on the floor when we arrived, and staff opened our door without knocking or saying anything. The cupboards and drawers were broken, and the shower only had cold water. During my four days over New Year's, there were frequent power cuts and water outages, and cell reception was poor. Do not stay here.

At 4.30 I was out of my room because the AC had broken again. I tried another room with empty beds and working AC, but the reception guy came in yelling while people were waking up. I gave up on sleeping and sat elsewhere in the hostel. I’ve never had a worse stay, and you can’t expect service or kindness from the guy.

They cancelled my reservation without warning after I asked why they wanted to charge R$1500 to my credit card in advance for two nights. They show zero respect for guests. Don’t go there.
