Mar Palace Copacabana

The rooftop view was nice, but the pool was dirty and had missing tiles. During the day the location seemed fine, though at night it felt better not to go outside. This hotel didn't feel close to the four stars it apparently has. There was mold on several surfaces in the room and the dirty floor made the whole place feel unclean. The front desk staff didn't speak English. Breakfast was just the bare basics, and we were very disappointed with our stay.

The rooftop facilities were a letdown. The sauna on the terrace was uninviting and out of order, the pool was very dirty when we arrived though it was cleaned later, and the whirlpool cascade didn't work. We also didn't get enough towels for three people, just enough for two, and it took several days to get the third. Not all the staff speak English. The location in Copacabana is great and the staff were very friendly. We arrived before check-in, but they stored our luggage in a secure room so we could go explore. Breakfast includes regional dishes.

The reception team were friendly and helpful, and the location made it easy to get around to the main tourist attractions. The hotel was fairly clean, though it could use some upgrades, especially better maintenance in the bathrooms and showers. We stayed 11 nights, and breakfast was decent but exactly the same each day. Some variety would have helped. It would also be useful to have a kettle, coffee machine or microwave in the room, and a simple way to order coffee or tea. It's a practical place with a good location and nice staff, but there's room to improve.

I got to the hotel at 7 AM, well before the 2 PM check-in time. Rafael at reception got my room ready by 10 and let me check in early. That really saved my day. He was the best!
