We especially appreciated the quiet atmosphere during New Year’s Eve, when Rio was chaotic. It was the best thing we could have booked. Rob is a great host and the first person to establish an official real B&B in Brazil. He speaks fluent brazilian portugise and English, is easy to talk to, and really wants his guests to have a good time. Ask if you have a special request. The house is beautiful, with good beds and rooms that have everything you need. Breakfast is a definite 12/10: fresh juices made mostly from homegrown fruit, scrambled eggs (muito bom), other things, and fresh pancakes one day. The location works well for Rio. With Uber, most nice places are 10-20 minutes away. Rob can suggest where to go and arrange things too, drawing on more than 30 years of experience. The house, courtyard, and yard were very well kept and had such good energy. We loved the plants and the two tortoise. Our room wasn’t fancy, but it had three beds and working air conditioning. The owners made the stay special, especially Rob, who was engaging and shared lots of stories with us. It’s a bed-and-breakfast, and we found it comfortable. It’s quite a way up the hill, but if we went back to real, we’d probably stay a night or two again. One thing to know: we were told B&Bs don’t supply shampoo or conditioner. I’m not sure if that’s a Brazilian thing, but it’s definitely worth a visit. I WOULD RECOMMEND.

A lovely little B&B, with a cosy room and hammocks outside where we could lounge. The gardens and neighbourhood were beautiful, and it was easy to get around from here by Uber. Our hosts were kind and welcoming, and breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed walking down the hill to Botafogo, especially once we found the shortcut. The location was quiet and in a nice, safe part of the city, and getting an Uber for pickup was easy when we didn’t feel like walking. Great place and excellent value for money.

Rob and Richard made us feel welcome and at ease, and gave us a great start to our few months travelling in South America. They were so helpful and knowledgeable, and took a genuine interest in our plans each day so they could share tips or suggest alternatives. We came for carnival and had worried about not staying in the main area, but we were glad we chose O Veleiro instead of Copacabana and other places. It was quiet here, and the local area felt very safe.
