Socialtel Copacabana

The stay itself was beautiful, but things kept disappearing from my room every night: first a neck pillow, then a charger, another charger and adapter, my hat, and my cross. I had locked them in my family's private room, which thankfully wasn't anything of crazy value, and after each item went missing my bed had been made. I expected better security. I've stayed in many hostels around the world, including much worse places, and never lost so much in one. It felt genuinely insulting. For the price, I expected better. Lock your belongings tight if you stay here. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares about losing things.

The location is great, and breakfast was amazing, generous, and served with a nice view. Those were the only good parts. I booked a bed in a female hostel room, and it was disgusting. I know what hostels are like, but this was very bad. It felt like the room had never been properly cleaned since the hotel was built. The old sheets, sand all around the beds, and very poor condition of the walls and floor made everything look extremely worn. The bathroom was so gross I was honestly scared to touch anything. It looked like it had never been cleaned, and the windows looked just as neglected. Cleanliness here is a major problem, almost zero.

They cancelled my reservation shortly before my stay, leaving me to book another hotel at four times the price. I had booked with free cancellation and payment on arrival, but they tried to charge the full amount to my credit card illegally. When I refused, they threatened me to pay and eventually stopped communicating.

We had to switch hostels immediately because it didn't feel safe to stay. There was a huge street-facing window that could be opened from outside, and the lockers for valuables couldn't be locked. The rooms looked nothing like the pictures, and there were no common areas. The beds had stains and hair all over them, and the bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned in several days. When we raised it with the receptionist, she answered in an extremely rude and unprofessional way. I don't recommend this hostel.
