Hotel Vermont Ipanema

My room wasn’t cleaned during my stay, even though I put out the sign asking for housekeeping, and that left a bad impression. The room was dated and noisy, though the noise didn’t bother me personally. There was no complimentary water in the room, a small thing I would have appreciated for the price. The location is a real plus, and I was warmly welcomed at reception. Breakfast was decent, nothing special, but it did the job.

Ipanema Beach is an easy two-block walk away, and there are bakeries, coffee spots, fashion shops, and restaurants at different price levels nearby. Spettacolo Grill is a good pick for a mid-priced lunch or dinner with beer or wine. I’d skip Bossa Nova Bar: it’s expensive, the entrees weren’t great, and the waiter tended to steer me toward pricier options. Baked Paderia is nice after dinner for coffee or tea and a pastry, especially their light, delicious flan or pudding. The rooms were clean, with a good-sized bathroom, though the towels weren’t very white. There’s a closet with drawers and a safe, plus a big-screen TV with lots of channels, about half in English. The free breakfast buffet offered plenty to choose from, including bread, cereal, juice, milk (no 2%-fat milk), meat, fruit, and coffee. Front-desk service from Eliabe and help from porter Rafael and the crew were above what I expected.

The staff were very pleasant, and breakfast had an excellent selection. It’s also just a short walk to the beach. I’d definitely recommend it.

I came back for a second stay and was glad I did. The hotel is simply outstanding, with a great neighborhood and location, a sense of safety, good facilities and services, and a good breakfast. The staff were understanding, too. Special thanks to Regis for the great service :)
