The street in Botafogo is a quiet dead end and seemed safe, so that part may suit you. But at check-in, you're expected to handle the paperwork instead of reception, and the desk apparently doesn't need change if you pay cash. The self-service kitchen's coffee and tea weren't replenished in time. My double room was the tiniest I'd come across in more than two weeks in Brazil, with hardly any room by the sink or to get to the toilet. The windows couldn't be locked. Booking, which doesn't publish every review, assigned me this room. Come without expectations and you won't be disappointed.

The bathroom could have been cleaner, and this didn't feel like a particularly social hostel. Still, my stay over NYE was OK. The location was great, right by transit, with taxis and Uber easy to get. The street felt very safe, with a guard out front and a locked gate at the hostel entrance. The four-bed women's dorm was basic but comfortable, and breakfast was standard.

The staff were helpful, pointed us toward some nice places to eat, and booked city tours for us. Breakfast was fantastic, with a good range to choose from. Our room was lovely and clean, and the bed and shower were great. It was also much quieter than other hostels I've stayed in. Really great place.

Beatriz was especially helpful throughout our stay, and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful too. The common area was nice, and the place was clean and close to the main sights. I'd definitely come back.

The design and atmosphere are good, and the staff are friendly. But the beds are a little hard, the air conditioning can be loud, and the doors don't block much noise. It could be more comfortable. Seems nice for groups of friends travelling on a budget.
