Villa Leonor

The location is decent, and a few of the workers were extremely nice. I also met a couple of interesting people from Eastern Europe, which made the stay a little more pleasant. But this felt and operated like a hostel, not a hotel, and the photos were completely misleading. The place is falling apart, and I thought an honest price would be R$20 per night. They advertise wifi, but it wasn’t available in the rooms or most of the property. There’s one router behind the bar, so you have to sit outside on the deck to get a connection, and it’s hard to get anything done there. Rain leaves you out of luck. Skype or Facebook conversations would be in public around the bar and deck. The deck is locked at night, leaving only the stairs outside, where the connection is weak. The gates were annoying too. You had to buzz in and out from the bar far down the stairs, but the gate buzzer was broken and staff often forgot to open it. I kept going up and down just to get out. Also, the security guy ran up and down the stairs with a loaded pistol and his finger on the trigger while people were around. I had to give him a firearm safety lesson. He seemed to take it seriously. I hope he keeps that in mind, because that kind of careless behavior could end in tragedy. Good luck.
