Grande Hotel da Barra

The front desk service was awful. They wouldn’t help with currency exchange and gave me bad advice about buying a SIM card. Luckily, a kind, helpful staff member who opens the door overheard and stepped in with better advice on getting one for my phone. The location is amazing, very close to the beach with a nice view. My room was okay: a little old, but clean and spacious for me.

The elevator and sound insulation could use improvement. Noise carries easily through the walls and doors. I visited in the low season, so it was quieter than summer, but still relaxing and enjoyable. I’m already planning to come back for at least two more trips. I stayed at Grande Hotel da Barra for 11 nights while in Salvador for work. The location is great, and the staff made the stay memorable. Thanks especially to Alberto at the front desk, Milena in sales and reservations, Jeferson the waiter, and the housekeeping team, who cleaned and organized my room every day. Breakfast was a highlight, with plenty of breads, sweet and savory pies, fresh fruit, juice options, freshly brewed coffee, and tapiocas or eggs made to order. My favorite routine was waking up, crossing the street to the beach, rinsing off at the poolside shower, then heading to breakfast.

The pool was nice, and it was pleasant to walk along the beach. The area felt a bit dangerous for tourists, so be aware. Breakfast wasn’t appealing. The long, dark hallways gave the hotel horror-movie vibes, as other reviews mention. At night our toilet clogged, and the front desk didn’t help, leaving us without a working bathroom for a while. In the end, we went downstairs and asked for a plunger to deal with it ourselves. They offered no apology or further help. It’s ridiculous not to assist guests who can’t use their bathroom, when at the very least they could provide a plunger. I’m not sure how this place got a four-star rating.

The pool area is spacious and great, and breakfast had plenty of options that we enjoyed. The hotel is right across from the beach, with good restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance. The location is definitely a plus. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only small issue we noticed was that shower water drained slowly and left a puddle. It wasn’t a major problem, just something to mention.
