The owners were very kind and helpful whenever they were around. Most of the time other staff were there, though, and they didn't understand a single word of English. The location is great, with plenty of restaurants nearby and only a short walk to the city center. The balconies were lovely and had a good harbor view, but the hotel is starting to feel old. The bathroom was worn, and it hadn't been cleaned properly when we arrived. The mirror still had toothpaste from earlier guests. Breakfast didn't offer much choice and wasn't what we had hoped for. The terrace view was wonderful, though. If you're looking to stay in an old colonial house in the middle of Salvador, this might suit you, but there are plenty of better places in the city.

The view from our room was breathtaking, and we had a balcony where we could enjoy the sun, stars, and sea. Casa Vila Bela is right in the old town, within walking distance of Pelourinho. The owners were warm, friendly, and spoke perfect English. As first-timers, we appreciated their advice on what to do and what to avoid. Breakfast was a treat every morning, with freshly baked local pastries, different fresh tropical juices, and coffee better than what we'd found in restaurants. The housekeeper was a star chef, though we unfortunately forgot her name. Thanks, Casa Vila Bela, for making our first trip to Salvador even more beautiful. We miss the place!

Gorgeous place, and the location is hard to beat. It's great value for money, and the owners are so helpful they'd do just about anything for their guests. I can't recommend it enough.

The service was the best, and both the hotel and rooms were amazing. Easily the best hotel in Salvador. I'll be back one day!

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place to anyone. The facilities are poor, there's a strong moldy smell, and the decor is very low quality. The 19th-century building seems to have been dressed up with paint. It does have sea views, yes, but it's built on a slope, with the floors going downward, which I found extremely dangerous. If something happened on the ground floor, guests on the lower levels would have no way out except down a roughly 100-meter drop. I also had a serious problem with the owner's honesty. Her name is Sra. Gerusa. When you book, they tell you payment can only be made in cash at the property, but they still ask for your credit card details. When I decided not to stay, I had no choice but to pay for the booking. I've traveled around the world and have always had the option to cancel a reservation, but there was no such option here. After I canceled, the full cost of the stay was charged to my card with no refund. That's very dishonest. If you want to be robbed in Bahia, stay there.
