The welcome was so friendly, and breakfast was delicious with plenty to eat. We’d just left another colonial hostel that was dirty and run-down, so this well-kept house felt like a big improvement. The location is very good. Pelourinho felt a bit hostile in general, though we felt safe there.

The rooms are spacious and have a great view, especially those at the front of the Sobrado. It’s also a handy base for Salvador’s historic sights, and being near a police station adds to the feeling of safety.

The rooms have a loft-style layout, and there’s a street party at night, so expect the area to be busy. It’s a good spot for exploring Pelourinho on foot, just a few meters from the Jorge Amado House (Foundation).

The staff were attentive, and breakfast was simple. It’s right in the historic center at the foot of the Pelourinho hill, within walking distance of the Lacerda elevator and Mercado Modelo. The old mansion has been renovated inside, with simple but charming rooms.

The facilities are poor for the price, and it gets noisy and somewhat unsafe at night. The staff are friendly, and the location is good, close to the historic center. We booked through Expedia, but it took them a day to find our reservation.
