Solcity Hostel

Solcity hostel is a great place to stay in Salvador, close to the beaches. Barra has a lively mix of bars and restaurants and feels safe for tourists. Dona Esther and Militao make you feel at home. Thank you for everything 💜

The location is great, but the hostel feels neglected and needs paint and maintenance. The air conditioning only runs from 9 pm to 9 am, and their website doesn’t mention that. The windows in our room wouldn’t close, so we had to wedge pieces of clothing in them to keep them shut.

The location is the only good thing. It really isn’t worth it, since there are better-kept hostels in the same area for about the same price. The rooms and shared spaces were filthy: the floor, the cushions on the entry sofas, and the shared bathroom. There were no clean towels for bathing, and the bathrooms had neither paper towels nor hand soap. The women’s bathroom for the rooms had no water in the flush; the sink was full of hair, the floor was dirty, and the shower shelf was broken, so toiletries had to go on the floor. There’s no mirror in the rooms, just one in the shared bathroom. If you don’t bring food to cook, you have to go out to eat. The attendants couldn’t suggest restaurants or snack bars to order from. They didn’t offer tips about places or outings, and weren’t kind or polite. The receptionist controls the room air conditioning even after it’s turned on, so if you get too hot or cold while sleeping, you have to go downstairs and ask someone to adjust it. The beds are old and uncomfortable. Bring your own padlocks, since they won’t lend you any if you don’t have one. There was a huge open sewer right at the hostel entrance, with sewage running across the ground and buckets of sewer material there too. A friend recommended the place, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Like I said at the start, it’s not worth it.

The place was very dirty, even the shower, and there was never toilet paper in the bathroom. The men’s restroom was out of order. My partner couldn’t sleep last night because the air conditioning blew straight at him. He asked a woman on staff if he could move to the other, empty bed, but she said no. Later, we asked a male volunteer for help, and he agreed.
