I was shocked by what this hotel charges. The rate I was first quoted for a reservation seemed fair, but then they changed the weekday price without telling me, and I only found out by checking myself. It seems the discount is only what brings the weekend price down to a reasonable level. For a basic room, the rates are far too high. Travel in Brazil is getting really expensive, and hotels end up taking advantage of tourists. This hotel in Santarém is an example. If prices stay this exorbitant, they’ll drive people away. On two fantastic trips this year, to Lisbon and the Portuguese countryside, and to Recife and Porto de Galinhas, I found much better hotels for less, even accounting for the difference in currency in Portugal. What can you do?

The breakfast needs more variety, and the subscription TV wasn’t working in most rooms. Our room smelled musty, and the beds were old. A really poor stay.
