Pousada Boa Vista

The rooms are very basic, and if anyone's in the rooms nearby you'll hear everything, especially people walking down the hallway. We paid 160 reais for the two of us.

It's a quiet, peaceful place, and I loved the rustic feel. The bathroom was very clean and the young woman who served us was really polite. There's no breakfast or parking, which is why I gave it two stars.

The Booking photos don't match the place, and I can't understand how a site with such a good reputation includes an inn of this quality. To be clear, I have nothing against Booking. We've booked and stayed at great inns and hotels through it on this same trip. For anyone reading this, watch out. The scam is there, and people fall for it if they want to. I booked four days in July and paid half the price in January 2023. I started getting suspicious on the way there, when signs on trees advertised rooms at the same inn for 69.90 reais. When we arrived, even though they knew we were coming, the owner wasn't there. A young man doing work at the property received us. He was very helpful, but this wasn't his job. He gave us the key to a tiny, dark room with no window and nowhere to put our bags. The bed was foam on wooden slats, the tube TV didn't work, and the tiny bathroom was dark and cold, with an electric shower. To heat the room, we'd have to pay 25 reais a day for a tiny heater. The room dividers were wooden, so we could hear the neighbors, and the floor creaked as we walked. There was no garage and no security for the car. I was told there was no breakfast, but that we could use a shared kitchen. A cat that had been outside with me came in, walked over the table, then settled on the same table we were supposed to eat at. Once the owner arrived, I tried to get my advance payment back, but he refused. Maybe this is how they make money, because no one in their right mind would stay there. We chose to leave, even though we'd paid half up front, and found a hotel. When I came back for our bags, the owner was talking with the bricklayer. I took the bags, and when I went to return the keys, I was told he wasn't there, even though his car was parked outside. I don't know why he did that, and don't care to know, but it felt cowardly and deeply disrespectful.

I stayed in apartment 14 and got almost no rest. You could hear people in the rooms next door and upstairs even shifting in bed, and the hallway was especially loud, with everything creaking because it's made of wood. The bed wasn't good either. It was the worst night I've had away from home.
