Chateau Palace Hotel

Amazing!

The rooms were nice and clean, and the TV was decent, but having two remotes for one TV and no printed channel guide meant we had to guess which remote to use. For a place called Château Palace, I expected a better managed experience. I stayed at Chateu Palace in são Lourenço with my wife from 19 to 23/01/2026. The building is beautiful, with lovely architecture that looks like a castle, but it feels undervalued and poorly looked after. The spacious reception had sofas scattered around with covers on them. At first glance, I wondered if there were cats or other animals there, and despite the space, it didn’t invite us to sit and relax or read a book. The employees we saw on arrival were polite and helpful, but their clothes didn’t represent the Château Palace brand. Being simple working people is no reason to welcome guests without a uniform suited to a château. On the second floor, I saw beds stacked by the windows in the corridor. That was absurd, they should be kept in storage, not there. The stairs were missing a handrail, as if it had broken and simply never been replaced. That’s a serious safety failure. The pools didn’t attract us either, they gave an impression of neglect, and there was nobody working there. The games room also did nothing to draw us in. For all the days we were there, stairs and other materials were left beside the breakfast area, where they should have been stored away, though it seemed there was no storage room. The breakfast was very good, and the employee there was nice, but they wore no uniform or apron, just very simple clothes. That gave me a bad impression because they were handling food, and it made me wonder about hygiene in its preparation. Staff didn’t seem to watch the breakfast food closely or replenish it, though perhaps they wanted to leave guests in peace. The employees were polite, but I felt there was no leadership or proper training for a hotel like Château Palace. I didn’t see anyone clearly in charge, such as a manager. The building is old, and I took that into account, but the stay still fell a little short. The room smelled musty, and there was a notice asking us not to open the windows, so I had to open them during the day. The only three-prong outlet in the room was in the bathroom. On the plus side, breakfast was very good and generous, and the staff were top-notch.
