Pousada Vila Do Sossego

The staff deserve the stars I’m giving this place. Everton, Gedeilson, Samila, Felipe, Carliane, Mari, and anyone I may have missed did their best to make our stay better. They’re the real support holding this place together. 🤎 The owner was rude, arrogant, and hostile. We politely suggested a way to avoid having to ask someone to manually open and close the gate every time, but the “little heir” playing at being the “owner” barely answered us. He treated us as if we were there as a favor. The room had its own problems too. The shower barely dripped water, and the fridge looked older than São Miguel do Gostoso. It was propped up on a stone so it wouldn’t fall over, and sometimes it cooled things and sometimes it didn’t. The bathroom smelled awful, like a portable toilet at Carnival, with the stink coming up through the drains even though we kept spraying deodorizer to cover it. If the city weren’t so beautiful and full of wonderful people, the stay would have been a complete failure. To the “owner”: treat your customers a little better and turn even 10% of that scowl into decent service, and maybe this dump could count as a real pousada.

The price was fairly appealing, but the facilities fell short. Check-in closes at 21:30, there was no remote for the air conditioning, and the electric shower didn’t work. Breakfast was served outside the property and had very few choices. Worst of all, there was nobody at reception and the gate was left unlocked.

We stayed five days and had two rooms. The good points were the breakfast, which was provided by a nearby inn, and the clean bed linens and towels. The rest of the place felt neglected. The pool was so poorly maintained that it wasn’t usable, and there were frogs in it. The beds had no feet, and ants crawled up while we slept. Staffing was thin: one person came in the morning to clean, and there wasn’t always anyone on duty at night. Guests had to open and close the gate themselves, and it was left unlocked overnight when no one was there. There was a TV box, but no subscription package, so the TV couldn’t be used.

We arrived late and went to bed around 10 PM, only to find hair, fur, blood marks, brown stains, and potato chip crumbs on the sheets. There was nobody at reception, so we had to sleep in that filthy bed. Our room was also wrong, despite our complaints and showing them our Booking.com reservation. We got a view of the parking lot, and the metal gate woke us several times overnight. The next day we showed the owner photos and videos. His only response was that check-out was at noon and we had to leave. What a jerk. Avoid this place.
