Casarao do Bixiga

I went to the entrance, but there was no doorbell and nobody answered to give me any information. I couldn't even find out if they had rooms available. The phone call wouldn't connect, and it didn't go to voicemail either.

The water was filthy and tasted like sewage, even for brushing my teeth or making coffee. I spent a month putting up with noise late into the night, and bedbugs got so bad I had to buy insecticide and repellent. I have photos of what happened to my feet and arms, and I reported the place to the health inspection office because I think it should be closed. The photos are misleading. The building is old, the floor is broken, and there are loose wires on the stairs. The rooms are tiny and dirty, and other residents made the place worse. People smoked marijuana openly without anyone complaining. The staff member seemed lazy, just throwing a bucket of water on the floor and leaving the rest undone. I don't like speaking badly about places when I can see the staff are trying, but this guesthouse disappointed me in every way. For 500 reais, you can find somewhere better. Don't stay in this dump.

Fights broke out often, and guests' belongings were at risk of being stolen. There were also rats and cockroaches, along with constant noise that carried on past midnight. The rooms stank, and the bathrooms were in poor shape and never clean, often left dirty with feces by the residents. The photos are from a long time ago and don't show how run-down the place is now. The managers and caretakers were a nuisance, too. Don't be fooled, there are better places to stay. Avoid this dump.

I was meant to stay five days, but I ran out of there. The place was dirty and disorganized, the building was in bad condition, the rooms smelled, and there were bugs and moldy mattresses. The bathrooms were awful, and people ignored the rules, smoking wherever they wanted and making noise after 10 pm. I felt ripped off paying for two nights here when the same amount got me three remaining days at a much better hostel on Rebouças. I can't recommend it.
